The Department of Physical Therapy participates in the Annual UMES Health And Wellness Festival each spring (typically March) in the Ballroom of the Student Services Center. The UMES students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend this fun and informative event.
Each year at least 60 health care agencies or university programs have provided health screening and interactive health education. Health promotion and prevention activities as well as fitness demonstrations.
In past years, the physical therapy students have performed health screenings for cardio-respiratory fitness, posture, balance, body composition, injury prevention, and strength and flexibility. The students perform interactive tasks with participants of the Health Festival to encourage life-long wellness.
The Health and Wellness Festival gives physical therapy students the opportunity to give back to the community and learn how to convey information in an educational and interactive method. This is a valuable skill for their future clinical practice.
