Lori Mizell, PT
Lori received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from UMES in 1984. She was known as Lori Marshall then. This was the first graduating PT class from UMES. She currently works in homecare in Florida. Lori worked at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore for 28 years. She held many positions at Good Samaritan. The last position was Program Manager, which she held for 19 years. As program manager she was responsible for six hospital departments and 97 associates, including short term general hospital and inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology. Prior to working at Good Samaritan she worked as physical therapist at multiple outpatient therapy clinics in Maryland and 2 hospitals in Pennsylvania, Harmarville, Rehabilitation Center and Nesbitt Memorial Hospital.
Lori made multiple contributions to the education of physical therapists and physical therapy students. She taught both PT and PTA students on the management of patient with stroke as a guest lecturer. She conducted continuing education courses for PTs on the management of patients with stroke and on the Maryland Practice Act. In addition she provided clinical education experiences for multiple PT students at Good Samaritan as their Clinical Instructor.
Lori also contributed to the profession by serving on the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners – as Board Member and Vice Chair from 2007 -2014. The Maryland Board of PT Examiners is responsible for licensing and educating PTs, protecting the citizens of Maryland through the regulation of the practice of PT in Maryland. The Board writes regulations, interprets the scope of practice of PT and disciplines those who violate the law.
She also served on the Board of Directors for the APTA of Maryland and as director of practice on the APTA of Maryland. In addition, last month she was recognized by the national APTA as a Fellow of the APTA because of her 25 years of membership with the APTA and her support and representation of physical therapy.

She believed in the therapists that she brought onto her team, and she worked hard to develop them into caring, professional and skilled therapists.”
