Maria von Kollmar, PT
Maria is a 1995 graduate of the UMES Bachelors of Physical Therapy program. She has been a dedicated staff physical therapist at Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) since 1998. She teaches in our Acute Care Care instructing the 1st year students in lines, leads, and fubes, for example, catheters, IVs, and pulmonary equipment. In the past six years she has graciously taught a half day course using the PRMC Nursing Simulation Laboratory which allows the students a hands-on experience with lines, leads, and tubes. In addition, she provides the students the opportunity to obsere in the Intensive Care Unit.
Since 2014, Maria has been a great addition to our Soft Tissue Course for the 2nd year students on the topic of Lymphedema management. We are proud that she obtained the rigorous Lymphedema certification in 2014. She is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Lymphedema Clinic along with providing excellent patient care. She has also received extensive continuing education in the field of wound care and was instrumental in the development of the Wound Care Center at PRMC. Maria has provided countless students the opportunity to observe in the Lymphedema Clinic, Wound Care Center, but more importantly, a large number of students have had the privilege of being instructed by Maria as a clinical instructor in the acute care setting. Maria has been a clinical instructor for over 100 students, for practicums and affiliations. The UMES PT department is grateful for her dedication to the clinical education component of physical therapy education. We depend upon the voluntary participation by clinicians for the clinical education component of the PT curriculum. We truly appreciate her years of dedication to the profession through clinical education.
