On February 12, 2014, the 3rd year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students (Class of 2014) traveled to Annapolis to participate in the “Day on the Hill” sponsored by the Maryland Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
The 3rd year UMES DPT students and Cindy H. Gill, PT, DScPT, MEd, Assistant Professor held meetings with delegates, senators, and their staff to discuss current issues that interest physical therapists in the state of Maryland. The UMES DPT students specifically met with delegates Norman Conway (District 38B) and Charles Otto (District 38A), Delegate Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio (District 37B), Delegate Adelaide Eckhart (District 37B), and the staff of Senator Colburn and Senator Mathias.
“I really enjoyed visiting the state capitol and being able to learn more about how our profession advocates for our physical therapy field and patients. It was also helpful to converse with the delegates and senators, and learn how to make our needs heard while also learning more about their advocacy for what’s important to them in healthcare as well.” DPT student, Class of 2014.
