2018 Joseph Beatus Student Award Recipients – Laura Kaufman & Rachel Whiteley

We are excited to present two awards this year for the Joseph Beatus Student Award for Excellence in Patient-Centered Care this year.

Laura Kaufman and Rachel Whiteley, graduates of the 2018 UMES DPT program are the award winners.

The two nominations came from the University of MD Medical Center (Level One Trauma located in Baltimore, MD) and the United States Air Force Academy located in Colorado Springs, CO.

The two recipients were described by their clinical instructors as:

  • an absolute pleasure to work with: caring and compassionate
  • having the ability to relate to their patients-making them feel at ease
  • they were described as “the whole package”
  • providing excellent patient care, the heart of a teacher, focused on the needs of the patient
  • Laura: Demonstrated professionalism, confidence, breadth and depth of knowledge, unwavering dedication to the field of physical therapy, and most important, a selfless heart with regard to her patients.
  • Rachel: Able to perform a full blown ASIA accurately during her first week of her 3rd affiliation. The Clinical Instructor had never seen anything like it.

We feel the ultimate compliment is that these two recipients could have switched their most challenging placement and would have performed just as well as the other.

Congratulations Laura & Rachel.
