NOAA-EPP LMRCSC Undergraduate Fellow
B.S., Natural Resources: Environmental Science
Delaware State University

Catherine Krejczman joined the LMRCSC in February 2026. She is a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in natural resources with a concentration in environmental science at Delaware State University.

Her prior research areas include insect behavior, water quality, and monitoring environmental pollutants. In 2025, she began working in Dr. Gulnihal Ozbay’s lab, performing water quality monitoring in Silver Lake, a dammed section of the St. Jones River and an important recreational fishing destination for the residents of Dover, Delaware.

Estuaries along the St. Jones are crucial for blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) and American eel (Anguilla rostrata) migration, with some juveniles observed in Silver Lake, but the water has become polluted over the last few decades.

She plans to graduate in spring 2027. After graduation, Catherine will continue researching and analyzing water quality and pollution for public outreach, as Delaware has high water pollution levels compared to most states.

Research theme: Healthy Habitats
