Juan Ramos

NOAA-EPP LMRCSC Master’s Graduate
M.S., Fisheries Sciences
Delaware State University

Juan received a B.S. in Aquaculture and Fisheries from University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. He is now pursuing a master’s degree in the Natural Resources Program at Delaware State University. His research focuses on the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus), its population characteristics, and its relationship to ongoing oyster restoration and oyster aquaculture activities in Delaware’s Rehoboth Bay. As part of this research, he is investigating the prevalence of the pathogenic and fatal virus, Callinectes sapidus Reovirus 1 (CsRV1), in the blue crabs of Delaware Inland Bays. By understanding the population characteristics and monitoring pathogenic virus in his thesis research, he hopes to improve the sustainability of shellfish in Delaware and surrounding states.

Juan’s goal is to pursue a Ph.D. at a minority-serving institution. He hopes to ultimately build his career at NOAA.

NOAA LMRCSC Fellows attain the NOAA Core Competencies detailed in this rubric.
