Zhaniya Harris is an undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in Marine Science at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). In the summer of 2024, they participated in the Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at UMES, working with mentors Kayland Huckaby and Dr. Paulinus Chigbu. Their research focused on examining the relationship between the trophic ecology of four groundfish species from the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast and their potential connection to environmental factors through fatty acid analysis. Post-graduation, Zhaniya plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry, with a focus on the conservation of marine species.
