Aracelis Jimenez

NOAA-EPP LMRCSC Doctoral Graduate
Ph.D., Environmental Science & Policy
University of Miami Rosenstiel School

Aracelis Jimenez has a B.S. in Tourism Management from Florida International University and an M.S. from Colorado State University in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources. Her masters thesis focused on the impacts a marine youth adventure program had on environmental attitudes and knowledge before and after their experience, and how this information could more effectively inform youth adventure programs to encourage pro-environmental behaviors.

Currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Miami, Aracelis’ research focuses on assessing fisher perceptions of shark depredation and willingness to adopt non-lethal strategies to reduce conflict across recreational and commercial fisheries in South Florida and U.S. Caribbean.

Ara’s project falls within the LMRCSC research theme of habitats and biological systems, while addressing the strategic goal of incorporating quantitative and qualitative social science information into fishery management and policy decisions.
