Savannah State University

Kaila Leonard studies the Eastern Oyster, its ecosystem, and the impact of its conservation on communities. Receiving a NOAA LMRCSC Fellowship allows her to perform this research in support of NOAA’s mission and vision and helps her protect and maintain Eastern Oysters by using alternative oyster reef substrates. Her research will help determine which alternative substrate reef is stronger, is capable of attracting spat, and improves the Eastern Oyster population.
