Shadaesha Green

Shadaesha is a graduate of Hampton University, where she received a B.S. in Marine and Environmental Science and a minor in Biology. She was a Scott B. Gudes Public Service Graduate Scholar, and in addition, received the Best Student Paper Award at the Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society Fish Habitat Section in August 2018.

Shadaesha earned her Ph.D. in the MEES graduate program at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science-Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (UMCES-IMET) in May 2022. She studied under the advisory of crustacean endocrinologist Dr. J. Sook Chung. Her research focused on crustacean physiology and endocrinology using the red deep-sea crab, Chaceon quinquedens, as her species of interest. Her research investigated the reproductive biology of females with an emphasis on characterizing eyestalk derived hormones and their potential role as reproductive regulators. Her work also extended to studying the genetic structure of the red deep-sea crab population along the coast of the United States. The ultimate goal of her research was to gain an understanding of the reproductive endocrinology of female red deep-sea crabs throughout various life phases and to delineate the current genetic diversity populations of this species.

Shadaesha became affiliated with the Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC) as an undergraduate student at Hampton University. Upon entrance into graduate school she received the two-year Louis Stokes Alliance Minority Program (LSAMP) Bridge-to-Doctorate Fellowship Award. During her third year in graduate school, she became a doctoral scholar within the LMRCSC program, and later received the one year Scott B. Gudes Public Service Graduate Scholarship in Marine Resource Conservation. She became a fellow in the 2019-2020 Ratcliff Environmental Entrepreneurial Fellowship (REEF). The REEF program aims to teach graduate students how to further refine their leadership qualities while teaching them key business skills.

Shadaesha was a fellow in the Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship in NOAA’s Climate Program Office. As a Knauss Marine Policy Fellow she studied how federal agencies work at the intersection of marine research and policy. She was employed in February 2022 as a Grants Specialist in NOAA’s Office of Education, in their Environmental Literacy Program. Her field of work is Educational Administration and Supervision.
