Juan Cervera

Juan Cervera completed an M.S. in the department of Marine Ecosystems and Society at RSMAS in July 2021. His research focused on the health and viability of restored mangrove ecosystems as proper fish nurseries and how water quality, marine biodiversity, and mangrove age affect nursery health. 

Prior to his time with the University of Miami, Juan attended the University of Central Florida, where he earned a B.S. degree in Computer Science. After spending a few years in a software development career, Juan shifted his focus and began working with the Florida Conservation Corps and the Florida State Park Service in 2016. His experiences involved invasive plant mapping and removal, volunteer coordination, public interpretation, water quality research, sea turtle surveying, and wildland firefighting.

Juan is now working as an Environmental Scientist at NOAA in Beaufort, NC..
