NOAA-EPP LMRCSC Undergraduate Graduate
B.S., Marine Science
Savannah State University
Dante Freeman pursued his bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences at Savannah State University (SSU). While at SSU, he has participated in multiple summer internships, including the Bridge to Research in Marine Sciences program. Under the direction of Dr. Amanda Kaltenberg, this program afforded him the opportunity to study the temporal patterns of the prey community in a local creek using active acoustics.
In addition to field research, Dante has also participated in a second internship as an LMRCSC fellow at James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory. There, he worked with Dr. Ashok Deshpande on a project to characterize the chemical components of marine plastic debris. As a result of these research experiences, Dante has presented both of these projects at the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography Aquatic Sciences Meetings in both 2017 and 2019.
Dante Freeman has since graduated from SSU and is currently doing the MPS Program for Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management at the University of Miami. He wants to move toward shark and other predator ecology, which is his primary interest.
