Confidentiality of Records

The Registrar’s Office maintains all student records relevant to their educational process as well as any personally identifiable information.  This information cannot be disclosed to individuals for any reason without the student’s written consent. 

However, there are exceptions to the policy; officials of other institutions in which students seek to enroll; persons or organizations providing students with financial aid; accrediting agencies carrying out their accreditation function; persons complying with a judicial order; and those who, in an emergency, must protect the health or safety of students or others.  All these exceptions are permitted under the FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA). 

 This Policy is written and published in accordance with the FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA) OF 1974.   UMES accords all rights under the act to its students.
