What is the Academic Advisement Report and why should I use it?

The Academic Advisement Report, sometimes referred to as the Student Advisement ReportDegree Progress Report, or Degree Audit shows where the courses you have taken are being applied to your requirements for graduation. Requirements are broken into categories including:

  • University Requirements
  • General Education
  • Major Requirements
  • Minor Requirements

Individual requirements show as Satisfied when the underlying in-progress and completed courses and other conditions fulfill that requirement in its entirety. Individual requirements show as Not-Satisfied when the underlying in-progress and completed courses and other conditions do not fulfill that requirement in its entirety.

Where can I find my Academic Advisement Report?

Your Academic Advisement Report is located in HawkWeb:

  • After login, click the Self-Service hyperlink, then click on the Student Center hyperlink (right column).
  • Under the Student Center – Academics heading, select Academic Requirements from the my academic … dropdown and push the double arrow button to its right.

How current is my Academic Advisement Report information?

Your Academic Advisement Report processes each time it is accessed to account for major, catalog, enrollment and other changes that may have occurred since it was last viewed.

How frequently should I view my Academic Advisement Report?

To keep informed of your progress toward graduation, you should view you Academic Advisement Report whenever a change to your academic record occurs: at the beginning of each term after class schedules are finalized, before and after advisement and registration periods, and at the close of each term after grades have been posted. The results of your academic Advisement Report will be used as a tool to certify completion of your degree requirement.

Who can access my Academic Advisement Report?

Your Academic Advisement Report can be accessed by all academic department advisors and chairs along with select members of the administration who are aware of your degree requirements and are available to help you understand its results.

What if I believe my Academic Advisement Report is incorrect?

If you believe the results of your Academic Advisement Report are incorrect, you should first contact your academic advisor or the chair of the department hosting your major. If an audit error is found or course substitutions are in order, your academic department will contact the Registrar’s office for assistance.

What are Unused Courses?

Unused Courses are courses which you have taken and that are not being used in any way to satisfy your graduation requirements. Unused courses can include classes you have failed or from which you have withdrawn, along with successfully completed courses in excess of what is needed for graduation.

What are Alternative Credits?

Many majors suggest (some majors require) that students explore alternative course work as a part of their university studies as a way to enhance their regular lecture and laboratory experiences. These Alternative Courses can be defined as cooperative education, directed study, independent study, internship, online, practicum, research, study abroad, and others. Enrollment during non-mandatory terms (e.g. Winter Term and Summer Sessions) may also constitute Alternative Credits. Contact your academic advisor for more information.

How can I tell if I am on track for degree completion during my last term?

You will know that you are on track for degree completion during your last term when your Academic Advisement Report processed during that term does not show any Not Satisfied requirements. It is important to note that in-progress courses used to satisfy requirements must be successfully completed or the requirement will show as Not Satisfied after final grading is completed.

What is the What-If Report and when should I use it?

The What-If Report is similar to the Academic Advisement Report in that it shows where the courses you have taken are being applied to requirements for graduation. Like the Academic Requirements Report, requirements are broken into categories including:

  • University Requirements
  • General Education
  • Major Requirements
  • Minor Requirements

However, the What-If Report gives you the opportunity to explore Majors and Minors that you have not declared, simulating how your completed and in progress courses will apply. Be aware that Course Exceptions and Substitutions already in place for your declared major will not be in place for those you simulate.

Your Academic Advisement Report is located in HawkWeb:

  • After login, click the Self-Service hyperlink, then click on the Student Center hyperlink (right column).
  • Under the Student Center – Academics heading, select What-If Report from the my academic … dropdown and push the double arrow button to its right.

  • Push the Create New Report button.
  • Complete the desired Program Scenario including Academic Program (School), Area of Study (Major, Minor, or Certificate), and major related Concentration.
  • Use the Browse Course Catalog hyperlink to select any courses you are considering (optional).
  • Click on the Submit Request hyperlink.
  • Your What-If Report will take a few moments to process and display.
Are Academic Advisement Reports and What-If Reports considered official?

Academic Advisement Reports and What-If Reports are advisement tools. Their results are considered unofficial and do not, in any case, constitute final approval, satisfaction, or revision of requirements. Academic Advisement Report results are used by the Registrar’s office to perform preliminary and final graduation clearances, however, the completion of degree requirements must be approved by the appropriate certifying officials which vary based on program and degree level before an academic degree is awarded.
