Location & Accommodations
UMES is located in the small town of Princess Anne on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The town dates back to 1733 and has many buildings and landmarks of historic interest. The quiet community environment is excellent for learning, yet it is only 3 hours by car from the abundant cultural and recreational facilities of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Virginia Beach. The state’s famous seaside resort, Ocean City, is only 1 hour from the campus. The campus is located 13 miles south of the town of Salisbury, which provides shopping and recreational facilities.
How to Get Here
If you are staying in one of the hotels listed below, transportation will be provided to take you to and from the Forum each day. Buses will depart each hotel at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. on March 4, 5, and 6, and arrive at UMES about 30 minutes later. Buses will depart UMES at the close of each day’s activities and return participants to their hotels.
The Salisbury Regional Airport (SBY) is the closest airport to campus and we recommend anyone outside of driving distance fly into SBY. This small, easy-to-navigate airport offers American Airlines flights daily to connect you to-and-from hubs in Philadelphia, PA, and Charlotte, NC. Rental car and taxi services are available to connect you to campus.
The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is the closet international airport to campus. Rental cars are available. You may also access the BayRunner Shuttle between BWI and Salisbury; this is the most inexpensive option, and it operates several times daily. You can access the BayRunner schedule here. Remember to book your ride with the shuttle in advance.
