NOAA-EPP LMRCSC Doctoral Graduate
Ph.D., Ecosystem & Science Policy
University of Miami – RSMAS
Ara Jimenez earned a B.S. in Tourism Management from Florida International University in 2016. She then earned an M.S. from Colorado State University in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources in 2021. Her masters thesis focused on the impacts that a marine youth adventure program had on environmental attitudes before and after their experience, and how this information can more effectively inform formal outdoor recreation programs to encourage pro-environmental behaviors. In 2023, Ara began the Ph.D. program in Environmental Science & Policy at University of Miami, with a focus on identifying the predictive relationships between environmental attitudes and the ecological function of marine habitats that users regularly use and rely on.
Ara’s project falls within the LMRCSC research theme of habitats and biological systems, while addressing the strategic goal of incorporating quantitative social science information into fishery management and policy decisions.
