Experience

Yuanwei Jin  received a Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California at Davis. Prior to joining UMES, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, then Research Scientist, with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. He joined UMES as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Engineering and Aviation Sciences at UMES, Princess Anne, MD in 2008.  From August 2010 to June 2012, he served as Interim Department Chair. He is now a Professor. His research interests are in the general area of statistical signal and image processing, with applications in radar/sonar, biomedical imaging, structural health monitoring, and wireless communications. He has published over 80 technical journal and conference papers in professional societies such as IEEE and SPIE. He holds 4 US patents on imaging and communications. 

Dr. Jin received a 2016 BEYA Special Recognition Award on educational leadership in the 2016 BEYA-STEM conference. He received a 2010 Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship award. He was a recipient of  an Earle C. Anthony Fellowship from the University of California at Davis. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He is affiliated with several IEEE societies, Sigma Xi, SPIE – the International Society for Optics and Photonics, the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
