Department of Engineering

Welcome to the UMES Department of Engineering

The Department of Engineering offers four Bachelor of Science degree programs: BS in Biomedical Engineering (BS-BME), BS in Electrical Engineering (BS-EE), BS in Mechanical Engineering (BS-ME), and BS in Engineering (BS-E) with four specializations: aerospace, computer, electrical, and mechanical. The BS-E program was launched in 2007 and has been ABET accredited since 2011. The BS-BME, BS-EE, and BS-ME programs are newly launched, in Fall 2023, Fall 2025, and Fall 2025, respectively. In addition, the Department also offers a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Mechatronics Engineering and a joint doctoral degree program in Applied Computing and Engineering.
The Department currently has more than a dozen professors and staff members with backgrounds in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, computer, and biomedical engineering who provide instruction and research guidance to both undergraduate and graduate students. Most of our graduates have successfully secured employment in world-class engineeringcompanies or have chosen to pursue advanced degrees in engineering and related fields.

ABET Accreditation

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Engineering, General Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Engineering Science.
