Transfer Credit Approval Process (Non UMES Study)

Summer or Winter Session Courses “Non-UMES Study”

Once you have chosen the course(s) you wish to take, contact your department advisor to process the online application for “Non-UMES Study”. Your adviser or department chairperson will review the course(s) you plan to take and will assign UMES equivalents.  The completed form must be electronically signed by your chairperson and your dean. At the end of the term, request an official transcript from the Registrar’s Office at the institution you attended.  Make sure your final grade(s) have been recorded first.  The transcript should be sent to the UMES Office of the Registrar, Student Development Center and or electronically at transcripts@umes.edu.  Once your transcript arrives, it will be matched with your non-UMES study approved form and the credits will be entered in your record.  If you did not secure prior approval for a non-UMES study, a copy of the transcript will be sent to your department chairperson for evaluation.  Please note that in general, grades earned in courses completed at other institutions will not appear on your UMES transcript and will not affect your cumulative grade-point average.  The single exception is coursework completed at another University of Maryland System campus (i.e. Baltimore, Baltimore County, College Park, University College).  Courses taken at these institutions will appear in your record as though they were completed at UMES.

Students requesting permission to register in the summer or winter session of another school will not be permitted to take more semester hours than there are weeks in that school’s summer or winter session. A student who earns a grade of “F” or “D” in residence at UMES may not advance credit hours earned toward a UMES degree by repeating the course at another institution.
