Summer Student Researchers

The Department Agriculture, Food, and Resource Sciences (DAFRS) is seeking Student Researchers in the Animal and Poultry Science Program for the Summer 2024.

What are the responsibilities of a Student Researcher? The students will assist Poultry Science researchers in poultry nutritional and environmental research conducted in the Poultry Research house and the Poultry Environmental house.  

What skills do I need? Student Researcher is expected to have a high level of professionalism (e.g., dependability, punctuality, professional demeanor, strong oral and written communication skills); experience in working in agricultural research; spirit of cooperation and teamwork; patience; confidentiality; high integrity, motivation, ethics, and initiative.  Individual must be able to lift 50 pounds.  Some weekend hours will be required.  

Who can apply? UMES students majoring in General Agriculture with a concentration in Animal and Poultry Science or Agricultural Studies are preferred.  Junior or senior students that have experience working in agricultural and scientific research are preferred.  Experience working with and handling chickens is preferred.  

Start Date:  May 20, 2024.

Payment: $15/hour; maximum 40 hours per week
