University of Maryland Eastern Shore Extension and its partners will hold a workshop aimed at strengthening agritourism support in the state.

The Maryland agritourism workshop titled “Good Neighbors, Safe Farms: Strengthening Agritourism Support in Maryland,” will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Central Maryland Research and Education Center — Clarksville in Ellicott City.

The workshop will focus on challenges facing agritourism operators including zoning and permitting, risk management and insurance, neighbor relations, and evolving farm business models. It is designed for service providers and support professionals who work with farms. 

In addition to UMES Extension, the other organizing partners are University of Maryland Extension, West Virginia University and Cultivating Tourism.

The workshop aims to bring together state and county officials, agritourism operators, nonprofits and farm support providers, and tourism and economic development partners to discuss:

  • Navigating zoning, land use and county-level interpretation of agritourism rules.
  • Risk management, safety planning and insurance for agritourism activities.
  • Neighbor relations, traffic, noise and communication.
  • How to support farms as agritourism models, including farm markets, U-pick, events, wineries/cideries and other value-added activities.

The workshop is free to attend but registration is required by filling this form.
