Aronia berries at the UMES Extension farm are ready to pick, and you are invited to compete in a picking contest and savor treats made from the berries.
The Annual Aronia Berry Festival and Contest will be held Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the UMES Research, Extension and Teaching Farm at 10789 Stewart Neck Road in Princess Anne.
Teams of four are invited to register for the contest with a chance to win prizes and bragging rights. The contest is limited to eight teams, but spectators are welcome.
The event includes an education segment where you can learn more about Aronia berries and their uses from Dr. Andrew G. Ristvey, Extension specialist at the University of Maryland. You will also get a taste ice cream made with the berries.
A University of Maryland Eastern Shore graduate assistant will share his work on the benefits of Aronia berries, accompanied by a variety of Aronia drink tasting.
UMES Extension 4-H STEM team will be on hand to offer special activities for kids ages 5-12 at the festival.
The event is free and lunch is provided. Pre-registration is required.
