University of Maryland Eastern Shore Scholarships:
- Graduate Studies Grant Award
Available for legal residents of Maryland who have obtained regular admission and enrolled as a full-time graduate student in a master’s or doctoral degree program at UMES.
For first-time, full-time matriculated students, a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better on the undergraduate or graduate transcripts. For continuing full-time and part-time students, a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better for the prior or last semester.
- Hazel Endowment
Hazel scholars are chosen from undergraduate and graduate students in education who meet established academic criteria. The annual, full tuition scholarships will be awarded with a priority to students from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and Sussex County, Delaware. Selection is based on admission to the respective program, grade point average, an academic or professional recommendation, financial need and dispositions, as measured by the production of a short essay and interview.

Conectiv Graduate Studies Endowment Scholarship
Available for legal residents of a county on the Delmarva Peninsula (i.e., State of Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland or the Eastern Shore of Virginia) who have obtained regular admission and enrolled as a full-time graduate student in a master’s or doctoral degree program at UMES.
- For full time students with a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA at the close of the prior UMES academic semester or session.
- S/he received the high school diploma, the undergraduate bachelor’s and the master’s degree (if applicable) from a high school and college/university located on the Delmarva Peninsula.

International Dissertation Research Fellowship
A competition of the INTERNATIONAL DISSERTATION RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (IDRF) program designed to support distinguished graduate students in the humanities and social sciences conducting dissertation research outside the United States. Fifty fellowships of approximately $20,000 are awarded yearly with funds provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The IDRF program is committed to scholarship that advances knowledge about non-U.S. cultures and societies grounded in empirical and site-specific research (involving fieldwork, research in archival or manuscript collections, or quantitative data collection). The program promotes research that is at once located in a specific discipline and geographical region and is engaged with interdisciplinary and cross-regional perspectives.

Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships For Minorities
The fellowship program identifies individuals with demonstrated ability and provides them the opportunity to engage in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree. These successful scholars then inspire other students of color to pursue an academic career in teaching and research.

Fulbright
The U.S. Student Program is designed to give recent B.S./B.A. graduates, masters and doctoral candidates, and young professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. Several countries also offer English Teaching Assistant positions. Most grantees plan their own programs. Projects may include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in a music conservatory or art school, special projects in the social or life sciences, or a combination. Recent projects have involved cancer research in the UK, free market development in Mauritius, women’s rights in Chile and contemporary artistic expression in India. Along with opportunities for intellectual, professional, and artistic growth, the Fulbright Program offers invaluable opportunities to meet and work with people of the host country, sharing daily life as well as professional and creative insights.

Mature Women’s Education Grant
Available for women age 25 or over. Must be a college graduate, graduate student, returning high school student, or undergraduate college student and also show a financial need. Must also be a Dorchester County resident attending an accredited college or university.

Teacher Education Award- Sharon Christa Mcauliffe Memorial
Available for Maryland residents enrolled at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time or part-time degree-seeking graduate student. Must agree to work as a full-time classroom teacher in a Maryland public school in the critical shortage area you have chosen, one year for each year of the award, or repay the scholarship with interest. Service must begin within 12 months of graduation.
Delegate Scholarship & Senatorial Scholarship
Available for full time degree-seeking graduate students who reside in the state of Maryland. Complete and file FAFSA by March 1st and contact your state senator or delegates for instructions. Minority Teacher/Special Education Services Scholarship
Available for minority students (defined as Black or Hispanic) residing in Indiana seeking a teaching certification or a student seeking a special education teaching certification; or a student seeking an occupational or physical therapy certification

Judith and Williams Borten Scholarship
Available to undergraduate Junior and/or Seniors that are preparing a career in secondary special education in the State of Maryland. Submissions must include:
- An essay of no more than five double spaced typed pages;
- A copy of a current transcript or grade report that verifies current enrollment at a Junior or Senior Status and current GPA;
- A letter of reference from a current college/university instructor; and
- Any other supporting materials that demonstrates the applicant’s appropriateness for this scholarship.

The Marilyn E. Mathes Memorial Scholarship
The Marilyn E. Mathes Scholarship fund was established to honor the memory of Ms. Mathes. She was a dedicated educator who served St. Mary’s County Public Schools for 35 years as a teacher, supervisor and director of Special Education until her passing on September 1, 2007. Ms. Mathes was dedicated to improving educational opportunities for children with disabilities by developing program and services to address their individual needs. To that end, she recognized the need for highly trained teachers and made it her priority to ensure that St. Mary’s County hired the most qualified staff.

The BHD Endowed Scholarship Fund for Teachers
Offers interest free loans, scholarships or grants to graduate students enrolled for a minimum of 9 credits a semester with cumulative GPA of 2.0 Family must meet CBS income guidelines 1.) Adjusted gross income of less than the median income for the State of Maryland in 2006, $91,000 and 2.) Parental income for single, graduate students will be evaluated on an individual basis.
