PRINCESS ANNE, MD – (October 24, 2018) – A special event Farmers Market is one of the highlights of the UMES 15th annual Small Farm Conference, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3. The Market is being held in support of local farmers and will be situated in the parking lot opposite the Student Services Center one day only.

The special event Farmers Market is an outgrowth of the Socially Disadvantaged Groups Grant (SDGG), funded by the USDA Rural Development Division.  The overall goal of the grant is to provide technical training and outreach assistance to SDGs with the aim of identifying the potential growth, production and marketing of vegetables, fruits, meats and a variety of specialty products through a Cooperative Farmers Market network.

During the Small Farm Conference, local farmers will sell their wares to conference participants, the campus community and residents in the surrounding area from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, November 2.

Consumers can expect a variety of items that includes but is not limited to: in-season produce, baked goods, handmade jewelry and pottery, wooden toys, healthy snack bars and bites, essential oils, beeswax wraps, roasted coffee, gourmet jams and jellies and ginger and turmeric plants.  For a comprehensive list of vendors and all that they’re selling, visit www.umes.edu/sans.
