PRINCESS ANNE, MD – (March 12, 2019) – As a part of his Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) Apple Workshop series, Dr. Naveen Kumar provides instruction about fruit tree pruning on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop, which will be held in UMES Center for Food Science and Technology, Room 1102, is free and open to the public.

Participants can expect detailed information on the following topics:  tree architecture; pruning after planting; pruning in young orchards; hands-on training at the UMES apple orchard; and SARE grants for growers, faculty and students.

Farmers, agriculture professionals, home gardeners, agriculture students and community families are invited to attend as well as to join the UMES SARE Apple Team.  Under Kumar’s direction, the team enjoys year-round workshops and training events as he promotes apple cultivation in Maryland.
