PRINCESS ANNE, MD – (June 8, 2018) – Dr. Fnu Naveen Kumar is set to offer his third Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) Apple Workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 30, at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Room 1102 in the Center for Food Science and Technology.
Participants can expect detailed information on the following topics: pollinizers and pollinators for apples; self-fertile, partial self-fertile and self-sterile apple varieties; the role and selection of the pollinizer and recently observed diseases in the UMES Orchard (i.e., rust, black spot, leaf curl and leaf blight).
Farmers, agriculture professionals, home gardeners, agriculture students and community families are invited to attend as well as to join the SARE Apple Team at UMES. Under Kumar’s direction, the team enjoys year-round workshops and trainings as he promotes apple cultivation in Maryland.
