 Organizational Leadership (Ph.D.) Program Benchmarks

 
Organizational Leadership Program Entrance Benchmarks
:

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline with minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Graduate level coursework in social science research methodology and statistics with minimum B in each course
  • Statement of purpose
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Successful interview with Admissions Committee

YEAR 1:

First semester (Fall) of first year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:  

  • Complete ORLD 601, 602 (6 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

Second semester (Spring) of first year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:  

  • Complete ORLD 603, 611 (6 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

Third semester (Summer) of first year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Complete ORLD 610 (3 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

YEAR 2:

First semester (Fall) of second year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Complete ORLD 612, 604 (6 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

Second semester (Spring) of second year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Complete ORLD 613, 618 (6 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

Third semester (Summer) of second year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Complete ORLD 614 (3 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

Internship Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:

By this point students should have submitted an Internship proposal for formal review by the Internship Committee before the start of the third year Fall semester. A student can start the internship at any time in the program with approval from the Internship Committee. Internship ACOL 898 should be approved and completed with a grade of Satisfactory (6 credits) by the end of the third year in order to sit for the Comprehensive Exam.

YEAR 3:

First semester (Fall) of third year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:  

  • Complete ORLD 617, 623 (6 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

Second semester (Spring) of third year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:  

  • Complete ORLD 620 (3 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

Third semester (Summer) of third year Benchmarks for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Complete ORLD 624 (3 hours total)
  • Earn minimum 3.0 GPA with no F’s

ADDITIONAL

Internship Benchmark for Target Progression and Retention:

Internship ACOL 898 must be completed with a grade of Satisfactory (6 credits) by the end of the third year in order to sit for the Comprehensive Exam.

Comprehensive Exam Benchmark for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Upon completion of coursework, complete Comprehensive Exam: ORLD 700 with Satisfactory grade (1 credit hour)
  • Pass all Comprehensive Examination questions (minimum 80% average score on each question)

Dissertation Proposal Benchmark for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Complete ORLD 899 (6 hours total) with Satisfactory grade
  • Complete (successfully defend) dissertation proposal
  • Advance to candidacy (must be by no later than end of fifth year in program)

Dissertation Defense Benchmark for Target Progression and Retention:

  • Complete ORLD 899 (6 hours total) with Satisfactory grade
  • Complete (successfully defend) dissertation (goal is by end of fourth year, but must be by no later than end of ninth year in program)
  • Apply for graduation
  • Complete successful Graduation Audit

Total Credits to complete Organizational Leadership: 61

Annual Student Progress Report:

To monitor the retention and progression of our students, we ask that all active students (enrolled) complete and submit to their adviser an annual report of progress by April 30th. You may download this as a Word document here. Please input the requested information in the form and return to your adviser by April 30th.
