The Writing Center is seeking 1-2 UMES students to be Writing Center tutors. This is a professional position, paying $15.00 an hour, and we want students who are committed to professionalism in general and professionalism in writing in particular.
Requirements: Strong writing skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong professional skills, and a commitment to developing all three are required. Minimum requirements are these: a CGPA of 3.3/4.0 or above (3.5 or above is strongly desired); grades of “A” or “S” in ENGL101 and ENGL102 (“A” or “B” or in Honors); grade(s) of “A” in ENGL305 and/ or ENGL310 (“A” or “B” in Honors) if either course has been taken. You will have to register each semester you are employed for the 1-credit course ENGL467: Peer Tutor Workshop and be available for paid weekly peer-tutor meetings. In addition to meeting all job expectations successfully, you must maintain a CGPA of 3.3 or above to remain employed in the Writing Center. Tutors must be available for 10-20 hours a week for at least 2 full semesters after the current one.

Select “Student Workship Application.” Download it, complete it, and email it to Senior Employment Manager, Ms. Mary Ames: mvames@umes.edu.
Email Dr. Terry Kundell (tlkundell@umes.edu), the Director of the Writing Center, with any questions. In addition to completing the application, you will need to write an essay, complete a grammar/punctuation diagnostic test, and have an interview.
