Overview:   The University of Maryland Eastern Shore 1890 Extension Administrator is working with the Small Farm Program to develop internship opportunities for undergraduates majoring in the field of agriculture and/or natural sciences.  The purpose is to create awareness and educational career opportunities for students by exposing them to the broad spectrum of agricultural extension services involved with helping farmers address the many challenges associated with operating a farm operation successfully.  Student Interns will work closely with the Small Farm Program Coordinator and Extension Specialists to gain experiential learning experiences that focus on but not limited to: farm production, marketing, financial, alternative agriculture and other issues that pertain to the overall management of a farm business. 

Reports to:    1890 Extension Administrator/ Small Farm Program Coordinator

Job Description:   Work with UMES Small Farm Farm Extension Staff actives associated with planting, cultivating, harvesting, and marketing of select crops. Assist in organizing/setting up equipment and indoor/outdoor facilities in preparation for annual events sponsored by the Small Farms Program (Twiligt Field Demonstrations, Workshops, Agriculture Field Day, Small Farm Conference, Farm Tours, etc…).  Perform general administrative services support to include (but not limited to): organizing and maintaining hard copy and electronic reader files for easy access, workspace management, collecting and analyzing farmer evaluation forms, updating client database list, and other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:  Undergraduate level student majoring in Agriculture or Natural Sciences.  Flexible hours. Willingness to work outside, with plants and soil products, and in varied weather conditions.

Days: Available:  Flexible.  Monday through Friday

 Hours:     Maximum Hours per Week = 20 (Summer 30)

Hourly Rate: $15 .00- $18.00
