Education and Demonstration Farm 10789 Stewart Neck Road Princess Anne, MD 21853
PRINCESS ANNE, MD – (June 5, 2019) – The Eastern Shore community is invited to attend a farm field day slated for Friday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the UMES Education and Demonstration Farm. The event is organized so that the afternoon session, from 1 to 3 p.m., is a duplicate of the morning session, from 10 a.m. to noon. While registration is required, the event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and lunch is on your own.
UMES’ 365-acre education and demonstration farm is located at 10789 Stewart Neck Road in Princess Anne. It showcases projects that are geared toward increasing the bottom line for farmers in the surrounding communities, testing crops like hops and Aronia and featuring an herb garden.
In addition, there are 8 beehives on the farm, where UMES Honey Bee Club members are taught the beekeeping trade to address the declining honeybee population. Among other things, the farm also features vertical farming systems and specialty ethnic crops. And there’s plenty of space left for new research initiatives that link directly to emerging areas of national priority and need.
To attend the field day at the UMES Education and Demonstration Farm, register at 2019demofarmfieldday.eventbrite.com. With questions or a need for special accommodations to attend, contact Berran Rogers at 410-651-6070/6693 or by email at blrogers@umes.edu.
