Common poultry diseases on the Eastern Shore, including avian influenza, is the topic of a May 9 seminar that is free and open to the public at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. A veterinary medical officer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Dr. Jonica Thompson, is the speaker for the 11 a.m. talk.
The seminar is part of the School of Agricultural and Natural Science Seminar Series, taking place in the Washington Carver Hall auditorium.
Thompson previously served USDA in its Food Safety Inspection Service, overseeing sanitary operation of the Delmarva Peninsula’s poultry slaughter plants. She was also the unit leader for the national incident management team.
