Want to learn about beekeeping? UMES Extension is offering a beginner’s class Saturday, Jan. 25, to learn the basics of bee biology, hive management and the tools needed to care for a healthy colony.
“Whether you’re looking to start your own apiary or simply curious about the role bees play in our ecosystem, this class will provide the foundation you need to begin your beekeeping journey with confidence,” said Stephen Goewey, beekeeper and program assistant for UMES Extension’s Apiary Program.
The free workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Research, Extension and Teaching Farm just south of campus. Pre-registration is required by visiting www.umes.edu/extension/events.
Topics include:
- setting up a beehive
- understanding their behavior
- managing seasonal challenges
- harvesting honey
