PRINCESS ANNE, MD – (July 27, 2018) – The UMES Small Farm Bus Tour promises another adventure and plenty of educational tidbits to boot.  One of the most popular events of the summer, the two-day tour begins at 8 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, when the bus leaves the campus’ Richard A. Henson Center.  The tour concludes on Wednesday, August 22, at approximately 7 p.m., when the bus returns.

Tour participants will explore successful and innovative farming ventures in New Jersey and Northern Delaware that will help the average farmer increase his or her bottom line and implement sustainable practices.  Select tour stops include, but are not limited to, Lavender Fields at Warrington ManorRutgers Agriculture and Research FarmSweet Sourlands Farm, and Rowan University Research and Aquaponics Center. Major topics of discussion will be centered on direct marketing, value-added products, agri-tourism, specialty “niche” crops, sustainable farming practices, woodland opportunities, natural resource conservation and more. 

The “Explore New Farm Income Opportunities” tour is hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Small Farm Program and sponsored in-part by the USDA Office of Advocacy and Outreach, the Future Harvest Chesapeake Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, and the USDA Renewable Resources Extension Act. 

The registration fee, which covers bus transportation, hotel accommodations for one night, lunch, educational materials and light refreshments, is $80 per person (single accommodation) and $60 per person (double accommodation).  For a party of two, the registration fee is $120.
