Mouhamadou Diack

Recent graduate Mouhamadou Diack was among two UMES students who received $5,000 scholarships from the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement for the 2024-25 academic year. The funds help awardees continue their studies and intent to pursue agriculture-related careers.

Diack, an agribusiness management major, came to UMES as a transfer student after earning an associate’s degree from Montgomery College.

“The transition came with many financial challenges, but the Farm Credit Scholarship was an incredible support. It significantly reduced my student loan burden and helped me navigate those hardships,” Diack said.

The award also gave Diack, whose heritage stems from Senegal, West Africa, an awareness of “the strength of the community that surrounds me.” With degree in hand, he plans on continuing his education in precision agriculture and agricultural extension to “better serve both local and international farming communities.”

“The Farm Credit Foundation has been a valued partner in supporting agricultural workforce development through scholarships, creating a pipeline of industry professionals,” said Dr. Moses T. Kairo, dean of UMES’ School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences.
