Purpose
The Department of Physician Assistant’s mission is to empower students to deliver compassionate and competent care to patients in underserved and diverse communities. To aid in this goal, this scholarship serves to encourage our PA students to seek leadership opportunities and participate in community events that directly impact underserved and diverse communities.
Eligibility
- Current UMES PA Students in either their didactic or clinical year
- PA Program cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or greater on a 4.0 scale
- Must be in good professional and academic standing
- Leadership and Community Involvement:
- Current or past leadership positions held and/or
- Current participation in community activities in underserved and diverse communities
Selection Criteria
Student applicants who meet established eligibility will be considered for the scholarship. The six (6) eligible, 3 didactic year and 3 clinical year, students with the highest scores will be awarded the scholarship. Selection for the scholarship is based upon the following:
- Letter of Recommendation (Recommender should not affiliated with PA Department)
- Current CV/Resume
- 500-word Essay highlighting leadership and community involvement. Please describe your leadership experiences, involvement in community service activities, and specific efforts made in underserved and diverse communities. Highlight any leadership roles and community activities you have participated in, and reflect on how these experiences have prepared you to embody the Department’s mission in your future career.
