Scholarships

UMES DEPARTMENT OF KINESIOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS
THE DEPARTMENT OF KINESIOLOGY OFFERS APPROXIMATELY $300,000 IN SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS YEARLY FOR ITS EXERCISE SCIENCE AND SPORT MANGEMENT STUDENTS.

Incoming Freshman and Transfer Scholarships: The department will provide the first 100 incoming freshmen and transfer students $2,000 if they have a GPA of 2.75 or higher and have confirmed their admissions with a deposit.
When: Confirm with your deposit for this scholarship as it is given on a first-come, first-served basis. No application is needed. This will be applied to your account once in the Fall semester (first 75 students enrolled for the Fall) or Spring semester (first 25 students enrolled for the Spring).

Financial Hardship Scholarship: A total of ten students will receive $5,000 from the department if they demonstrate financial need based on their financial aid letter and an essay explaining why they should receive the scholarship.
When: The application process will open and be applied to the Fall semester.

Leadership/Community Service Scholarship: A total of $5,000 will be provided to five students if they show exceptional leadership and community service. Students will have to write an essay why they should receive the scholarship and describe what leadership/community service events they’ve participated in.
When: The application process will open and be applied to the Spring semester.

Professional Meeting Scholarship: A total of ten $1,000 scholarships will be provided to students to attend kinesiology-related professional meetings including the American Kinesiology Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. Students can use the scholarship for conference registration, hotel, travel, and food. Selection will be based on GPA, leadership/community service, research experience, and an essay.
When: The application process will begin and be applied to the spring semester.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarship: A total of ten $1,000 scholarships will be provided with preference for students from economically or environmentally disadvantaged backgrounds. This includes students who are from low-income families, first-generation college students, underrepresented minorities, those with disabilities, homeless students, English language learners (international students), or rural students. Full and part-time students will be eligible to apply. Selection will be based on GPA, community service history, financial need, and an essay.
