Commencement FAQ
When is Commencement?
Spring 2026 Commencement will be held on May 15, 2026 at 10am. Doors open at 8:00am / Doors close at 9:50am.
Where will Commencement be held?
The Commencement Ceremony will take place inside the William P. Hytche Arena.
Who can participate in the May 12, 2026 ceremony?
Approved Spring 2026 degree candidates can participate in the ceremony. All participants must be dressed in UMES official maroon and gray regalia. Order Regalia
Will there be a rehearsal?
Tuesday, May 12 at 2 pm. Students should meet in the Hytche Arena.
Do I need tickets for guests?
Yes, 5 tickets per candidate will be distributed. Each guest will need their ticket to get on campus and into the commencement venue. If you need extra tickets please fill out this form https://forms.office.com/r/rHF4w2GT3X. Children from 5 under do not need tickets to be admitted into the ceremony.
When will cap and gown pictures be taken?

Why am I only allowed 5 tickets?
To ensure all graduates and guests are able to be seated, we will continue to allow 5 tickets per graduate. Children from 2 under do not need tickets to be admitted into the ceremony since they will sit on the lap on their parent/guardian. If a child will occupy a seat – then a ticket is needed.
What happens if my guest loses their ticket?
Due to health and safety regulations, anyone without a ticket will be denied entry into the ceremony
When will tickets be distributed?
Graduates can pick up tickets from the Office of the Registrar located in the Student Development Center Room 1120 each day from 9 am until 4:00pm beginning May 11- 14, 2026. On commencement day, students can pick up tickets in the Student Services Center Ballroom.
Where will my degree be mailed?
Please check Hawkeye and make sure you have your home address where you would like your degree mailed. Degrees will be mailed approximately 14 weeks following the Commencement ceremony. Fill out this link Diploma Information Form | Office of the Registrar
Commencement Decorum Statement

To ensure the integrity of the ceremony and the comfort of all participants and guests, we ask that graduates and attendees maintain appropriate decorum throughout the event.
Disruptive behavior, inappropriate attire, or actions that interfere with the ceremony or detract from the experience or safety of others will not be tolerated. The university reserves the right to remove any individual from the commencement line or ceremony whose conduct does not align with these expectations.
