Welcome Letter

Dear International Hawks,

I am pleased to welcome our new and returning international students to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) for the Spring 2022 semester. We pride ourselves on being a unique and diverse campus family, and to that end always look out for your well-being while you are studying at UMES. You have chosen the best institution for an all-around great academic, professional, and personal experience!

In these pandemic times, UMES continues to work hard on providing you with a safe and healthy learning environment. Your UMES continues to be vigilant in their steps to offer the best atmosphere possible for as complete a campus experience as possible. Be on the lookout for a UMES News email in your email on Mondays, a letter from President Anderson on Fridays, and bi-weekly newsletters from the Center for International Education to keep you updated on international and study abroad news of interest to you.

Please be informed that we are here to assist you with concerns you may have as they relate to your learning environment, health and safety practices and finding ways to keep safe and healthy during this COVID19 pandemic. Equally of concern is the need to be compliant with all immigration policies as they regulate international students while studying at UMES. We also need you to be aware of campus resources that include student services such as:

  • Admissions, Registrar, and Student Accounts – assistance with your admissions, registration, and financial requirements.
  • The Health Center – a resource to help students achieve and maintain wellness, convenient, affordable and accessible within a pleasant, professional atmosphere.
  • UMES Counseling Services – to address individual, group, and couples counseling, psychiatric and referral services and consultation.
  • The Writing Center – assistance to provide you with writing, revising, and editing skills.
  • CAAS – Center for Access and Academic Success tutoring, mentoring, coaches.

As a reminder, please be sure to check with your respective departments on appointment requirements and university updates that may affect students.
