Visa Request Letter Checklist

To obtain a request letter to the embassy for a relative to attend Commencement, students please provide us with the following:

  1. Email of candidacy from the Registrar – this will include the language: “Your graduation for (semester/year)*…has been reviewed and approved by the Office of the Registrar.”
  2. Student ID number
  3. Your salutation, Mr. or Ms.
  4. Major
  5. Name(s)* and relationship to the invitee(s), please include the designation Mr. or Ms. designation which will be needed in the body of the letter.
  6. The family member’s local American embassy: the name of the embassy and the address in the country they are from – please obtain this from an official website, such as https://www.usembassy.gov/

Please note:

Please note that the Visa letter is not written by our office until you have received the approval email from the Registrar.  You will receive several formal communications from the Registrar. This one will include the language “Your graduation …has been reviewed and approved by the Office of the Registrar.”.

We do not mail letters to the embassy. We prepare the letter and the student will forward it to the relative to present to the relevant embassy.
