The purpose of the Center for International Education (CIE) is to provide a conducive environment that will support the educational, cultural and social interactions among international students, scholars, domestic students, faculty, staff, and the community. The Center will promote global education through student study/research abroad programs and faculty research and teaching abroad. The CIE is located at 11966 Dean Harris Court, across from the Student Apartments Office. The Center for International Education (CIE) is located across from the Student Apartments office. We are the third house in the parking lot where the radio station (WESM) is located. Weather permitting, you will see a flag flying out in front of the office.

- Effectively serve the needs of international students, study abroad students, the university, and the greater community.

- Promote cross-cultural and educational awareness among students, scholars, faculty and staff, and the community.

CIE Mission
The Center for International Education’s (CIE) mission is to support and enhance international students’ academics, cultural, and social interaction at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). International students are advised and supported through counseling, referrals, and financial concerns, as it relates to academic and personal matters.
Due to its multifunctional role, CIE also provides information, assistance, and consultation on concerns pertaining not only to international students, but also to students and faculty for their global education needs. The Center also collaborates with campus units to promote and support engagement with domestic providers and international institutions to encourage student and faculty exchanges to strengthen the institution’s mission toward preparing globally competent students.
The CIE maintains interaction with administration units at UMES, governmental organizations, and other agencies. The administrative relationships at UMES include the following Units:
- Division of Administrative Affairs (Offices of Administrative Computing, Auxiliary Enterprises, Comptroller, Financial Aid, Human Resource, Information Technology, and Public Safety),
- Division of Enrollment Management and Student Experience (Offices of Admissions and Recruitment, Career Services, Student Health Center, Counseling, Campus Life, Residence Life and Student with Disability Services etc.),
- Division of Academic Affairs (Schools and Departments, Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, and Center for Access and Academic Success, Registrar, Frederick Douglass Library, Center for Instructional Technology and Online Learning, University Writing Center, and Upward Bound Program).
