Public Policy Minor

For sociology majors (Non-majors please scroll down)

The Public Policy Minor will provide students with the tools of economics and social policy to evaluate current government programs and policies.

The Public Policy Minor consists of five required courses and one elective (18 credit hours).

Minor requirements include:

  • Principles of Economics I (ECON 201) or Principles of Economics II (ECON 202)
  • Introduction to Social Work (SOWK 200) or History of World Civilization II (HIST 102)
  • Public Administration (POLI 392) or History of the Presidents (HIST 305)
  • Social Work Policy (SOWK 305)
  • Introduction to Political Behavior (POLI 200)

Students must take three credits from this list if not taken above:

  • Principles of Economics I (ECON 201) or Principles of Economics II (ECON 202)
  • Social Work Policy (SOWK 305) or African American History II (HIST 334)
  • Small Group Analysis (SOCI 340)
  • Social Organizations I (SOCI 344)
  • Organizational Social Psychology (SOCI 345)
  • Sociological Internship (SOCI 490)
  • Urban Politics (POLI 342)
  • Public Administration (POLI 392)
  • Introduction to Social Work (SOWK 200)
  • History of World Civilization II (HIST 102)
  • History of the Presidents (HIST 305)
