Physical Plant Hurricane/Storm Emergency Preparation Plans

Grounds

Before:

  • Clean ALL drains on roadways and at building entrances
  • Help with filling sand bags
  • Equipment – Make sure all chainsaws and pole saws are operational

After:

  • Clean up fallen branches and clear drains as necessary.

Housekeeping for Administrative Buildings/Residence Halls

  • Housekeepers will clean where the students are housed whether in the residence halls or other buildings. The number of housekeepers will depend on the students.
  • Housekeepers will put buckets where leaks are. We will have three housekeepers checking the buildings.

Electrician

Before:

  • Make sure all Generators are functioning properly.
  • Make sure all Generators are fuel up with the proper Fuel/Gas.
  • Provide JT Williams with Small Generator for IT server.
  • Provide Infirmary with Small Generator to plug Refrigerators in, for Cold Medicines.
  • Make sure all Emergency Lighting is functioning properly.

Steam Plant

Before:

  • Prevent & maintain the boiler plant from flooding.
  • Insure that sump pump are operational & placed in their proper locations
  • Install drain plugs to prevent water from entering plant from drains
  • Place absorbent socks at the bottom of doorways to prevent water from entering
  • Secure items outside steam plant (drums, pallets, etc.)
  • Place item inside of steam plant in a higher level (power washer, shop vac, etc.)

Safety

Before:

  •  Survey the entire campus for safety conditions and coordinate corrected actions with Mark
  • Make sure a driver or (drivers) is available for emergency evacuation
  • Make sure all vehicles are serviced and gas up

HVAC/Plumbing

Before:

  • Check operation of backhoe and ensure fuel tank is topped off.
  • Check operation of Bobcat and ensure fuel tank is topped off.
  • Check to see if we have an adequate supply of sand to fill sand bags.
  • Check to see if we have an adequate supply of sand bags.
  • Check operation of two mud hogs, top of fuel tanks, be sure we have suction and discharge hoses.
  • Check operation of numerous smaller pumps, be sure we have adequate discharge hoses, and be sure we have an adequate supply of extension cords.
  • Check electricians to ensure we have at least four operational portable generators.
  • Check to be sure everyone has flash lights, raincoats and boots.
  • Check to be sure all work trucks are topped off with fuel.
  • Check everyone’s contact phone number.

Maintenance Residence Halls

Before:

  • Make sure all residence halls emergency lights are working
  • Provide flashlights and batteries to RA’s and Directors in the Residence Halls,
  • Check all exit lights in residence halls

After:

  • Make sure all elevators are working
  • Reset all alarms system as needed,
  • Make sure proper lighting are restored in the residence halls

Maintenance Administrative Buildings

Before:

  • Check all roofs for loose debris
  • Make sure there is no equipment or supplies on any roofs or on any overhead areas
  • Board up any opening that need to be covered

After:

  • Check to see where we had leaks and dry-in as soon as possible
  • Check for broken windows
  • Check for any building damage
