New Hawk Day Checklist!
- Celebrate your admission!
- Confirm your enrollment (the link to confirm your enrollment can be found in your FutureHawk Portal).
- The $100.00 enrollment deposit is non-refundable.
- Register for your New Hawk Day New Student Orientation.
- Check your admission letter for your UMES Student ID Number. Memorize it or save it in your phone (you’ll need it later).
- Verify your residency information on your acceptance letter. If you believe you are in-state and have been classified otherwise, contact us at umesadmissions@umes.edu.
- Submit your FAFSA application. You must complete and submit the FAFSA in order to be considered for financial aid and certain scholarships.
- Using your UMES Student ID Number, visit www.umes.edu/newaccount to set up your UMES account. Once you set up your account, you will start receiving important information to your UMES student email. Be sure to check it regularly.

- Complete your housing reservation online using the following steps:
- Log in to MyUMES (Https://my.umes.edu/_layouts/PG/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f) on a computer (not a mobile device). Click on the Hawkville icon (the maroon icon that has the image of a bed/house). Select and complete the correct application
- Pay the $300 deposit with a debit/credit card
- Your school(s) should submit your final high school transcript(s) directly. Available electronic options include Parchment-Admissions and umesadmissions@umes.edu (official final transcripts are required before you can attend class). If you’ve earned college credit by taking Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams while in high school, you can provide official transcripts to UMES showing satisfactory scores. These AP and IB transcripts are in addition to your official final high school transcript. PLEASE ADHERE TO THE FINAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT DEADLINES: SPRING DEADLINE-DECEMBER 1 FALL DEADLINE-AUGUST 1
- Find a Roommate. If you’re looking for a roommate, download the ZeeMee app. You will be added to the UMES community and to the channel to chat with other prospective students who are also in search of a roommate during their college admissions process. College visits and UMES campus tours are a great chance to meet potential friends and roommates as you prepare to move to campus.
- Complete your Health and Immunization form and submit to the Health Center by the deadline indicated on the form.You may have provided your medical records to your high school before you were able to enroll. Please request that your school forward your medical records to UMES, or provide them to you, before your graduation from high school. This will save you substantial delays in your enrollment process once you begin at UMES.
- Schedule a time to visit your new home.

Students Starting Fall 2026
We are so excited to welcome you to UMES’ Hawk Family! Orientation for students starting in Fall 2026 is a multiple-part process. Please complete all steps to help you successfully transition to college!


Step 1: Complete your Orientation Registration (New Hawk Day)
Register for UMES New Hawk Day (Orientation). New Hawk Day will be your official welcome to the Hawk Family! You will meet key members of the campus community, register for your courses, and take care of any other outstanding business such as:
Meet with your Academic Advisor & Register for Classes
Meet with a Financial Aid counselor
Complete your Housing Reservation process
Sign Up for a Payment Plan
Turn in your completed Health Forms to the Student Health Center
Take a tour of your new academic home!
Step 2: What do I need to do prior to my orientation?
Complete the “Admitted Student” website steps
Complete the Aleks Math Placement Test from home before your New Hawk Day (you received specific details about this process via email)
Make sure your final transcripts have been submitted from your high school, college, IB, or College Board to the university. (Dual enrollment and passed AP college credits) Submit these documents to the UMES Registrar: umesregistrar@umes.edu; they can be reached via phone at 410-651-6414.
Step 3: Stay up-to-date with your admission Status Portal
Students will register through their Admissions Status Portal (futurehawk) when it is available.
Make sure you have set-up your MyUMES account and logged into your UMES Outlook Account as this will be your primary correspondence email. Your account will receive important information for you to do and complete. Some of these include information about completing your required training before the start of the semester.
Step 4: Attend your Orientation Session (New Hawk Day)
All students will select a date to come to campus to attend a New Hawk Day session, or if you are an International, Long Distance or Non-Traditional Student you will have the option to select an online orientation. Academic Advising Team members and Orientation Staff members will guide new students and families through a day of informative information, course placement and scheduling to make sure all of your questions can be answered. For online orientation, students will make an appointment to meet with their advisor and services that will guide them through the onboarding process.
Directions to UMES & Information for the Event
Each New Hawk Day Event with start at 9:00 AM and will conclude once you complete all of the necessary steps to be fully prepared to move in for the fall 2026 semester. More details will be sent at a scheduled rate starting 30 days prior to your event date.
