Small- and large-scale farmers can learn the latest on farm equipment and operations technology, soil management, and crop production and diversification at a free Ag Showcase on Aug. 16 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

UMES Extension and Atlantic Tractor LLC have partnered for the third consecutive year for the full-day event taking place at the university’s 365-acre Research, Extension and Teaching Farm on Stewart Neck Road in Princess Anne beginning at 9 a.m.

“Atlantic Tractor will once again feature its popular interactive operations tech center and bring state-of-the-art agricultural equipment for display and demonstration,” said Berran Rogers, UMES Extension’s Small Farm Program coordinator. “This year’s farm tours will highlight seed and fungicide treatments for soybeans. Extension subject matter specialists will be on hand to share ongoing research on over 35 alternative crops, including herbs, small fruits and ethnic vegetables, all of which are increasing in consumer demand.”

Agricultural exhibitors and vendors will be on site to showcase their products and services, Rogers added. In addition, educational activities for youth will be available, so families are welcome.

Pre-registration for general admission is required by Aug. 11 by visiting www.umes.edu/extension/events. The event is free and includes lunch sponsored by Mountaire Agri-Business. Contact smallfarms@umes.edu for more information, or to request special accommodations, email Crystal Sankar, program management specialist for UMES’ Small Farm Program, at cjsankar@umes.edu, or by calling 410-621-5450, Ext. 101.

Vendors are welcome and must register at the link above by Aug. 7. Vendor registration is $100 and includes one general admission ticket, a table and name recognition.
