Dr. Tyler Love, a 2009 UMES graduate and a faculty member in UMES’ Department of the Built Environment, was named the Association for Career and Technical Education’s (2026) Region I Teacher Educator of the Year.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore faculty member Dr. Tyler Love was recently named the Association for Career and Technical Education’s (ACTE) 2026 Region I Teacher Educator of the Year.

In addition to receiving the honor, Love will be one of five finalists vying for the ACTE National Teacher Educator of the Year Award, which will be awarded during the ACTE Awards Gala in December in Nashville, TN.

“I am grateful for ACTE highlighting the valuable work that teacher education programs provide within the broader CTE ecosystem,” Love, a faculty member in UMES’ Department of the Built Environment, said. “I am really happy for our university, programs, students, faculty, and staff because this award highlights years of collective efforts to provide high-quality programs for Maryland’s CTE teachers, work-based learning coordinators, and K-12 career counselors.”

According to the ACTE, the award “recognizes the finest career and technical education educators at the middle, secondary and post-secondary school level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE in their institutions and communities.”

Candidates were also evaluated on criteria that include contributions to student success, innovations in CTE, and leadership in the local or greater CTE community.

Love, who is also a 2009 UMES alumnus, added that he hopes that through receiving this honor he can continue to raise awareness about “the importance of high-quality teacher preparation and career counselor preparation programs.”
