PRINCESS ANNE, MD. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will hold its 28th Winter Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.
As part of the ceremony, UMES President Heidi M. Anderson will confer the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees of 229 students.
“Commencement at UMES is always a moment of mixed emotions,” Dr. Anderson said. “While it is bittersweet to see so many students, I have come to know spread their wings and leave the nest, it is also a profoundly joyful time. Watching our graduates take their first steps toward pursuing their dreams—and preparing to make their mark on the world—fills me with pride and hope for their futures and our global future.”
The event will also feature performances by the UMES student gospel choir and the traditional student commentary speech by Terrell Lawrence, a business administration major from Bowie, Maryland.
Yvette Lewis, former chair of the Maryland Democratic Party and the second African American woman to serve in the post, will also be on hand to provide greetings from the University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents.
The event will be live-streamed online at https://wwwcp.umes.edu/commencement/umes-commencement-video/ and on the university’s social media pages.
