UMES Information Technology does not provide antivirus software directly to students. We have generated a list of recommended software depending on your operating system.

  • Windows Users

    • UMES IT recommends that all users of Windows Operating Systems make use of the built in Windows Defender. It comes free with all current Windows versions and offers excellent protection. We recommend not disabling any settings and letting it run with its default configuration.

  • Apple Computers

UMES IT recommends BitDefender Antivirus for Macs. https://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/antivirus-for-mac.html
Unfortunately it isn’t free, but is reasonably priced and scores very highly in catching threats.
Faculty / Staff
  • Faculty and Staff provided desktops and laptops come installed with McAfee Enterprise Antivirus. This is centrally managed by the UMES IT Department.

  • UMES IT recommends that personal desktops and laptops make use of Windows defender, which is built into Windows 10.
