IT FAQs and Tips
UMES Information Technology does not provide antivirus software directly to students. We have generated a list of recommended software depending on your operating system.

Windows Users

UMES IT recommends that all users of Windows Operating Systems make use of the built in Windows Defender. It comes free with all current Windows versions and offers excellent protection. We recommend not disabling any settings and letting it run with its default configuration.

Apple Computers
Unfortunately it isn’t free, but is reasonably priced and scores very highly in catching threats.

Faculty and Staff provided desktops and laptops come installed with McAfee Enterprise Antivirus. This is centrally managed by the UMES IT Department.

UMES IT recommends that personal desktops and laptops make use of Windows defender, which is built into Windows 10.

Login using UMES email address and password if needed

Click “+” to create event

Give event name, set date, time for meeting

In add guests field, add email addresses of people to invite to meeting

On left hand side “add conferencing”

Dropdown “hangouts meet”

Click “save”

Click “send” on next pop-up window

Once you are in a call session you can share your screen with others by Clicking on the share link at the bottom right
The Department of Information Technology (IT) is Waters Hall on the UMES campus.
IT provides Helpdesk and computer services and supports the campus data network, telephones systems, classroom technology, computer labs, technology procurement, the data center, email, and network storage.
The IT department is open from 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. Weekend support can be provided by appointment. Members of the campus community can submit a request for assistance 24×7 through the help.umes.edu web site.
