Summer Financial Aid
Summer Pell Grant (Year-Round Pell) at UMES
The new change to the Year-Round Pell Grant means that, starting in the 2024-25 school year, you no longer need to be enrolled at least half-time in the summer to receive the Pell Grant. Before, students had to be at least half-time to get the extra funds, but now, if you’re eligible, you can receive the Year-Round Pell without that requirement.
To receive the Year-Round Pell Grant at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), follow these steps:
- Enroll in a Summer Course: You must be registered for summer courses at UMES. The Year-Round Pell Grant can be used for summer classes in addition to the regular fall and spring semesters.
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Requirements: Ensure you meet the SAP standards set by UMES. This means maintaining a certain GPA and completing a required percentage of your courses to stay eligible for financial aid.
- Be Pell Eligible According to the 2024-2025 FAFSA: Make sure you complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA and qualify for Pell Grant funding. This will determine your eligibility for the Pell Grant for the summer term, based on the FAFSA information.
Once these conditions are met, you will be considered for the Year-Round Pell Grant, allowing you to use your remaining Pell Grant funds for summer courses.
