Policy for Foster Care Tuition Waiver

PURPOSE:

To set forth policy and procedures for awarding and disbursing of the Foster Care Tuition Waiver.

POLICY:

It is the policy of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, through the Office of Student Financial Aid, to process all tuition waivers for students who qualify under the Tuition Waiver for Foster Care Recipients as mandated by the State of Maryland.

PROCEDURES:

  1. Review the eligible student list as provided by the State of Maryland Office of Human Resources each academic year.
  2. Determine eligible students enrolled at UMES.
  3. Provide waiver of tuition and fees, less any grant or other scholarship aid. All grant and scholarship aid awarded to the student will be considered first before awarding any tuition waiver.
  4. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by policy SA-V-405.
  5. Students must meet all eligibility requirements as outlined by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, Office of Student Financial Assistance.
  6. Students must have completed their FAFSA on or before March 1 st of each year in order to be eligible for this tuition waiver.
  7. Students who do not appear on the roster provided by the State of Marylandare not eligible and will not receive the tuition waiver.
